Taylor Koenen: Dear Tar Heel Nation
April 21, 2020 | Women's Basketball
After a stellar four years at UNC, Taylor Koenen will graduate in May with a degree in business administration. As she looks back at her time in Chapel Hill, here's her message to the fans and family who have supported her along the way.
Dear Tar Heel Nation,
As I write this during a time of uncertainty, there is one thing that I am 100% certain about: Carolina is, and will always be, home. There are no right words to express the gratitude that I have for the fans, coaches, and teammates who made me feel like family, all while pushing me to be the best version of myself throughout my time in Chapel Hill.
To the Carolina community and fans: thank you. From the moment that I arrived on campus, you have been nothing short of amazing. UNC women's basketball would be nothing without you. There is not a doubt in my mind that I will carry your support with me years beyond Carolina, and for that, I am forever grateful. Thank you for supporting me every time I stepped onto the court wearing Carolina blue. They say, "home is where the heart is." For me, you guys are the heart that made my experience at UNC unforgettable. I will miss sitting in a Sutton's booth, and being congratulated on last night's win by all who pass, or boarding a charter flight and being cheered on by the attendants wearing their own Carolina gear. This brand is about more than just basketball, and I feel so grateful for the opportunity to have represented it for four years.
To the coaches: you are the difference makers. You all set the standard for us to compete hard day in and day out and pushed us to be our best every day. Every time I ran out of the tunnel in Carmichael, I knew that I was in the best possible hands with you all. I will miss looking over to the bench during a tough game and being inspired by your unwavering support.
To the next Tar Heel who will wear No. 1: get ready for the best four years of your life. Carolina was a no-brainer choice for me because of the tradition of excellence that the brand carries. When I arrived on campus, I experienced this firsthand. From the chills you get watching the football team run out of the tunnel in Kenan Stadium, to the sold-out crowd in the Smith Center as the men's basketball team takes on Duke, Carolina has it all. Not to mention, the ability to wear the brand, and play in the arena that Michael Jordan built. Most importantly, you will be joining a coaching staff who will never stop believing in you. Carolina's tradition makes you a part of a community that will welcome you, love you, and never turn its back on you. These are the reasons that I chose UNC and would choose it all over again.
Sincerely,
Taylor Koenen
