Lucas: Day 1 Point Guard Fan Favorite Voting
May 14, 2020 | Men's Basketball, Featured Writers, Adam Lucas
Breaking down the day one matchups at the point guard position.
By Adam Lucas
Today kicks off the voting in the Carolina point guard fan favorite bracket. Today's matchups include some very difficult decisions, and you can vote all day on the @UNC_Basketball Twitter feed or on the @UNC_Basketball Instagram story.
Phil Ford vs. Cole Anthony
This would be quite a battle if Anthony had stayed four years (or even had the opportunity to play a full freshman season). Ford is the maestro of the Four Corners and an entire generation's favorite Tar Heel.
Joel Berry II vs. Coby White
This is unquestionably the CBS, prime time, Jim Nantz on the scene matchup of the first round. Berry directed Carolina to a national championship and was the Most Outstanding Player of the 2017 Final Four. White's dynamic scoring, breakneck pace and genuine love of the game made him a perfect fit for Roy Williams' system.
Raymond Felton vs. King Rice
Felton is a Cousy Award winner, a national champion and the original "tough little nut" of the Roy Williams era. Rice is one of the toughest on-court point guards of the Dean Smith era...and don't ask Lefty Driesell about Rice's propensity for game-winning shots.
Ed Cota vs. Larry Brown
Now here's an interesting stylistic contrast. Cota is arguably the most entertaining passer in Tar Heel history (Kendall Marshall would like to have a word) and steered his teams to three Final Fours. Brown's toughness was a key part of Tar Heel teams in the early 1960's and he also won an Olympic gold medal.
