Former All-American Joe Seivold Elected to National Lacrosse Hall of Fame

BALTIMORE, MD. – Joe Seivold, one of the all-time great lacrosse players in University of North Carolina history, was elected to the U.S. Lacrosse National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, as announced by the organization Thursday.
A four-time All-America midfielder for the Tar Heels from 1983-87, Seivold becomes the second member of his family in the Hall of Fame, joining his namesake father, Joseph, who was inducted in 1979. Seivold was previously inducted into the Greater Baltimore Chapter of the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame on Jan. 28, 2006. His eldest son, Johnny, a four-year letterman as a midfielder at UNC from 2001-05, introduced him.
A member of the 1986 NCAA men's lacrosse championship team, Joey Seivold was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and earned first-team Academic All-America honors while earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in history at UNC in 1987. He was a member of the 1986 World Champion U.S. lacrosse team and was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference's 50th Anniversary Men's Lacrosse Team in 2002.
Seivold is currently the sixth headmaster of the Berkeley Preparatory School in Tampa, Florida, a role he has held since 2011. He has worked at some of the finest independent schools in the country over his 33-year career, including Durham Academy, The Blake School in Minneapolis and now Berkeley.
Before Berkeley, Seivold coached high school lacrosse teams at Durham Academy and Blake to a total of 11 state championships. As associate head coach of the Blake Bears in 2005, Seivold coached his son, Jordan, who was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2005 Minnesota state lacrosse tournament.
Joey's wife Joan Dunlap Seivold was a three-time All-America women's soccer player at the University of North Carolina and played on three NCAA championship teams from 1982-84. She is still among the leading scorers in UNC women's soccer history.
