A Letter To The Old Leaguers: By Scott Forbes
August 17, 2020 | Baseball
Dear Old Leaguers,
I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to continue to represent the University of North Carolina as the next head coach of the baseball program. For nearly two decades, I have had the privilege of pouring my heart and soul into Tar Heel baseball. I am so proud of what the program has accomplished under Coach Fox and am incredibly excited about the future of Carolina baseball. Every current and former player, coach, support staff member, and of course my family, have played a huge part in helping me reach this point in my career. Their support means the world to me. I wanted to express my sincere appreciation for the kind emails, texts and phone calls I have received from many of you since being named head coach. Your friendship and continued support of the program is amazing.  Thank you!
Â
I especially wanted to reach out to each "Old Leaguer".
Â
It is humbling to follow in the footsteps of past head coaches Walter Rabb, Mike Roberts and Mike Fox—3 legendary men who epitomize what it means to be a Tar Heel. I consider it a tremendous honor and privilege to carry on Coach Fox's legacy and represent not only the players I have coached, but all former Tar Heels who have made this a special place. My goal is to continue their tradition of winning while developing men of high character on-and-off the field.Â
Â
I am inviting all former players from every generation to stay connected to Carolina baseball.  You are the very reason the program is where it is today.  This staff is committed to continue building the Carolina baseball family atmosphere Coach Rabb instituted when he began the "Old Leaguers" nearly 60 years ago.  Although we are currently unable to host you here at Boshamer Stadium, we will make every effort to welcome you and your family back to Chapel Hill as soon as possible. Â
Â
The tradition of Carolina baseball is truly unique and I hope you will continue to help us grow it to even higher levels.  I look forward to the future together.
