Cook Selected 5th in NLL Draft

Philadelphia, Pa. – In a historic night for Major League Lacrosse and Carolina Lacrosse the National Lacrosse League (@NLL), the longest running and most successful professional lacrosse league in the world held its 2020 Entry Draft … For the first time in league history, the Entry Draft was done virtually.
Senior midfielder Tanner Cook of Courtice, Ontario was taken with the 5th overall pick of the draft by the Calgary Roughnecks.
In the shortened 2020 season, Cook played in all seven games, scoring 20 goals, and 7 assists. In his four-year career, he netted 62 goals, in 48 games played for the Tar Heels.
A midfielder from Courtice, Ontario, Cook quickly became one of the nation's most notable playmakers in man-up opportunities. Cook's six goals on extra-man opportunities tied him for third in the NCAA and led the Tar Heels to the nation's best man-up offense with 17 goals on 22 attempts (.773). After just seven games, he had already broken his career records in single-season goals (20) and points (27). His 20 goals were the team's second most, while his 27 points ranked third on the team.
Cook was named to the 2020 Inside Lacrosse Media All-America second team, as well as the 2019-20 ACC Academic Honor Roll.
A senior in the global pandemic shortened season, Cook will return to Chapel Hall for an additional year of competition in the spring of 2021.
Founded in 1986, the National Lacrosse League (NLL) is the longest-running and most successful professional lacrosse league, ranking third in average attendance for pro indoor sports behind only the NHL and NBA. The League is currently comprised of 14 franchises across the United States and Canada: Buffalo Bandits, Calgary Roughnecks, Colorado Mammoth, Fort Worth (to begin play in 2021-22), Georgia Swarm, Halifax Thunderbirds, New England Black Wolves, New York Riptide, Philadelphia Wings, Rochester Knighthawks, San Diego Seals, Saskatchewan Rush, Toronto Rock, and Vancouver Warriors. Dates for the start of the 35th NLL season will be announced in the Fall.
