No. 13 North Carolina Hosts No. 8 Virginia Tech Friday To Start ACC Competition

No. 13Â North Carolina (1-0) will kick off its ACC slate when it hosts Virginia Tech (4-0) in the first ACC wrestling competition of the season. The dual meet will air live on the ACC Network at 6:00 p.m. EST. There will be no public attendance.

UNC is led by No. 1 Austin O'Connor in this week's Intermat rankings. Both Zach Sherman (No. 9 at 141 pounds) and Devin Kane (No. 9 at 174 pounds) join O'Connor ranked inside the top 10. This follows Carolina's 45-0 home dual meet win over Gardner-Webb last Sunday.

Virginia Tech has wrestled four times early this season, including last weekend's quad duals against Ohio, Kent State and West Virginia. The Hokies knocked off Campbell to start the season, a 28-6 win in Blacksburg. They have six wrestlers ranked in Intermat's top-15, including No. 1 Mekhi Lewis at 165 pounds.

Last season, The Tar Heels were ranked No. 12 going into the dual meet against No. 3 Virginia Tech and knocked off the Hokies in Blacksburg, 23-10.
