CHAPEL HILL—Senior Josh Peck won the clinching singles match as second-ranked North Carolina rolled to a 4-0 win over Northwestern in the first round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.

The Tar Heels, ranked No. 2 in the nation in the preseason ITA national poll, improved to 1-0 to start the season. Northwestern fell to 0-1.

Carolina advances and will play South Carolina in Monday's championship match at 2 p.m.

The Gamecocks defeated Duke, 4-1, in Sunday's other first-round match in Chapel Hill.

Peck and fellow senior Benjamin Sigouin started the day right for the Tar Heels when they won their doubles match, 6-3, over Natan Spear and Presley Thieneman. Shortly thereafter, #6 William Blumberg and Brian Cernoch beat #57 Simen Bratholm and Nick Brookes to clinch the doubles point for UNC.

Cernoch (6-2, 6-3), #2 Blumberg (6-3, 6-2) and #100 Peck (6-4, 6-4) won their singles matches to grab the team win.
