CHAPEL HILL—The North Carolina men's tennis team, ranked second in this week's Oracle Intercollegiate Tennis Association national rankings, will host Virginia Tech on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
The dual match officially will be considered a non-Atlantic Coast Conference match between the two ACC foes, who will meet again on March 26 in Blacksburg, Va., in an ACC-sanctioned match. Â This weekend's match officially will serve as a non-conference tuneup for both squads.
UNC and Virginia Tech players are familiar with each other after they both saw action two weeks ago in Chapel Hill in the ACC Challenge, which also featured competitors from Duke and NC State.
The Tar Heels began their 2021 season with a pair of wins last weekend at home in the ITA Kickoff Weekend. Carolina shutout Northwestern, 4-0, in the first round on Sunday Jan. 25 and downed No. 20 South Carolina, 4-1, in Monday's second round.
UNC advanced to the ITA Indoor National Championships for the seventh consecutive season and will play in the quarterfinals against an opponent to be determined on February 12 in Champaign, Ill.
