Tar Heels Announce 2021-22 Team Captains

CHAPEL HILL - The North Carolina men's lacrosse team has named four captains for the upcoming season. Chris Gray, Jacob Kelly, Connor Maher, and Sean Morris have been voted by their teammates as team captains for 2021-22.
Chris Gray and Sean Morris are named captains for the second straight season. It will be Jacob Kelly and Connor Maher's first time as captains.Â
Gray, an attackman from Wading River, N.Y., led UNC and the ACC in goals with 49. His 42 assists led the Tar Heels and were second-most in the ACC. For his stellar play on and off the field, he was named ACC Offensive Player of the Year, ACC Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and First Team All-America. He was also selected as a 2021 Tewaaraton Award Watch List Finalist.
Kelly, an attackman from Towson, Md., scored 20 goals and collected 11 assists. He played in all 16 games and started in 11. He was also named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll for his outstanding achievement in the classroom.
Maher, a midfielder from Timonium, Md., had one goal, two assists, and was second on the team in ground balls with 65 and caused 10 turnovers in 2021. He saw action in all 16 games and was named a Second Team All-America, All-ACC Team, and the ACC Academic Honor Roll.Â
Morris, a defenseman from Stamford, Conn., started in all 16 games last season. He collected 16 ground balls and caused eight turnovers in 2021.Â
The Tar Heels finished the 2021 season ranked third nationally with a 13-3 record. The team captured the ACC Championship, and the season ended with a 12-11 loss to Virginia in the NCAA Final Four. It marked the 14th time in program history that Carolina has appeared in the Final Four.Â
