Men's Tennis Continues Strong Weekend At ITA Regionals

CARY–Members of the University of North Carolina men's tennis team continued their strong performance at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Carolina Regional, hosted by Duke University on Saturday.
In singles action, sophomore Logan Zapp and freshman Chris Li both advanced to the round of 16.
Li defeated Jake Krug of host Duke, 7-6, 7-6 in the second round on Saturday morning. Shortly thereafter, Zapp defeated James Story of South Carolina, 6-4, 7-5 to reach Sunday morning's third round.
Meanwhile in doubles, the teams of Brian Cernoch and Mac Kiger and Zapp and freshman Casey Kania each advanced to the third round.
Cernoch and Kiger downed Will Fullett and Ashe Ray of Wofford in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, on Saturday afternoon. At the same time, Li and Murphy came from behind and beat Chrisjan Van Wyk and Victor Putter of Gardner-Webb, 3-6, 6-1 and 1-0 (9) in a three-set thriller.
Action will continue in Cary on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

*All singles Round of 16 (main draw and consolation) will begin Sunday at 9 a.m. Court assignments will be set in the morning.
*The singles main draw and consolation draw quarterfinal matches will follow after Sunday's Round of 16 matches. Time is TBA.
*At the conclusion of the singles rounds, the doubles main draw Round of 16 will begin.
