Gymnastics Announces 2022 Schedule
November 16, 2021 | Women's Gymnastics
CHAPEL HILL — Carolina gymnastics and head coach Danna Durante have announced its winter 2022 schedule Tuesday, highlighted by matches against four Top-25 teams from a season ago.
"Our 2022 schedule is filled with top teams from the Big 10, Big 12, SEC, and EAGL conferences. This gives our team the opportunity to experience a number of different environments across the country and provides strong competition for our fans to enjoy right here in Chapel Hill," said Durante.
Before the official start to the season, the Tar Heels will host a Blue and White Scrimmage in Carmichael Arena on Dec. 17.
Carolina opens the regular season at home on Jan. 7, welcoming Auburn, NC State and Bowling Green for a quad meet.
"Five home meets this season will allow us to share with our fans the brand of Carolina Gymnastics we've been building this fall," Durante shared. "The team is eager to welcome the Carolina Community back to Carmichael for the first time since the 2020 season."
The first road match of the season comes on Jan. 15, when the team travels to New Brunswick, N.J. for a quad meet hosted by Rutgers and includes NC State and New Hampshire.
The Tar Heels then return home for back-to-back meets, starting with a quad meet with Missouri, Brown and Georgia Washington on Jan. 22. The only tri-meet of the season comes on Jan. 28 when Carolina hosts Pittsburgh and Towson.
One of the biggest tests of the season will come in Tuscaloosa on Feb. 4, when the Tar Heels travel to Alabama, the 2021 Southeastern Conference Champions.
Then, Carolina returns to Chapel Hill to host the Temple Owls, the back-to-back-to-back EAGL Champions on Feb. 12 in the last home meet of the season.
"As the level of NCAA Gymnastics continues to increase across all conferences, including the EAGL, we are looking forward to the challenges this 2022 schedule will provide for our team," Durante said.
The Tar Heels finish the season with five back-to-back meets, first at NC State (Feb. 19), then at West Virginia (Feb. 24), then at Long Island (March 6), then at Georgia (March 12). The season culminates on March 19 in Washington D.C. at the EAGL Championships, hosted by George Washington.
NCAA Regionals take place on March 31-April 1 and the NCAA National Championships on April 14-15 in Fort Worth, Texas.
"As a staff we are truly inspired by our young women, who have worked extremely hard and continue to raise the bar for UNC Gymnastics week by week," said Durante. "We are excited to kick the season off with our Blue & White Intrasquad on December 17 in Carmichael and hope to see the Chapel Hill community there! Go Heels!"
