Softball Adds JMU Graduate Transfer Sara Jubas
November 17, 2021 | Softball
CHAPEL HILL – Carolina softball head coach Donna J. Papa has announced the addition of Sara Jubas to the 2022 roster. A graduate transfer from JMU, Jubas has one year of eligibility remaining and will play for the Tar Heels this spring.
An infielder from McDonald, Pa., Jubas was an all-conference selection and four-year starter for the Dukes, helping JMU to the program's first Women's College World Series appearance last season.
As a redshirt junior in 2021, Jubas led the team in batting average (.397), doubles (12), hits (58) and triples (2), while also tallying 12 home runs and 40 RBIs. She only struck-out six times in 146 at-bats, the fewest strikeouts of any player on the team.
Defensively, Jubas fielded a team-best four-double plays. She was named to the VaSID All-State First Team and the NFCA Northeast All-Region Second Team.
"We're extremely excited about adding Sara to our roster and her playing her final season in a Carolina uniform," Papa said. "Her collegiate softball resume speaks for itself. The experience playing for JMU and her appearance in the 2021 Women's College World Series will have an immediate positive impact on our roster and help us compete for championships this spring."
"Sara is an outstanding defensive middle infielder and a leader on the field. Her defensive abilities and her bat are proven and make her a game changer the moment she steps on the field. Watching her play during her career, especially last May in Oklahoma City, only solidified her instant credibility as a proven winner on and off the field."
As a sophomore in 2019, Jubas led the team with a .423 batting average, which ranked as the second-best in a single season in program history.
She finished the season with 66 hits, 17 doubles, 14 home runs, 62 RBIs and a .801 slugging percentage, while holding JMU's highest on-base percentage (.513). That season, Jubas only struck out seven times in 156 at-bats.
Prior to her time in Harrisonburg, Jubas was a four-year letter winner at South Fayette High School, holding a .729 batting average and .742 on-base percentage in her junior season. She was ranked No. 54 on FloSoftball's Hot 100 list in 2016.
Jubas is currently a first-year graduate student at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. She is the daughter of John and Lee Ann Jubas and has a younger sister, Julia.
