Gymnasts Shine During Blue/White Intrasquad Meet
December 17, 2021 | Women's Gymnastics
Chapel Hill – For the first time under head coach Danna Durante, the Tar Heels took to the event floor in Carmichael Arena for the Blue/White intersquad meet.
"I am really impressed, we set the bar really high for this team, and they went out and did what we asked them to, said head coach Danna Durante.
The first event of the night saw the Heels take on the vault. "We made errors, but those where aggressive errors, and those I am ok with", said Durante. The second rotation was the uneven bars. "We were swinging big, and proud of them for fighting"
The third event of the night takes us to the balance beam. "Really proud of the entire team, they didn't lose sight of the fact that the beam is 4-inches, and really grew in confidence."
The final event of the nights say the Tar Heels take to the floor. The Tar Heels went with a modified floor routine, opting to not take the third pass.
"We are going to continue to raise the bar to get better and better each time we compete. I am so excited for January 7th, and to get fans back in Carmichael and make this a fun environment", said Durante. "We are going to keep striving for great energy, well executed and dynamic gymnastics."
The Tar Heels will host Auburn, NC State and Bowling Green in a quad-meet for the home opener, Jan. 7, 2022, at 7 p.m. in Carmichael Arena. Purchase tickets here or call the ticker office at (800) 722-4335 or (919) 962-2296.
