Alec Smir Named Second-Team All-South Region

CHAPEL HILL – North Carolina senior goalkeeper Alec Smir was tabbed Second-Team United Soccer Coaches All-South region honors for the second straight season the organization announced.
A 2021 All-ACC first-team performer, Smir tied for the conference lead in shutouts with 10 which ranked him fourth nationally. He also finished third in the league in goals against average (1.028) and fourth in minutes played (1838:42). Smir started all 20 games in goal this season and played 1,838 of a possible 1,856 minutes.
As a junior he was named Second-Team All-ACC with a goals against average of 0.57 that led the conference. He also led the conference with 10 shutouts. Smir is one of only two players in Carolina history to post double digit shutouts in consecutive seasons.
