Smith Leads Tar Heels on Day One of Moon Golf Invite

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Following a nearly two hour weather delay, the North Carolina women's golf team sits in 13th place after the first round of the Moon Golf Invite on Sunday at the Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Fla.
In a tie with Coastal Carolina, the Tar Heels shot 11-over-par 299 on day one of Louisville's Moon Golf Invite.
Sophomore Kayla Smith led Carolina, finishing one-under-par 71 in 15th place. Smith began the day on the sixth hole with five-straight pars. The sophomore totaled four birdies, including two on her final four holes.
Freshman Nicole Adam wrapped up her first collegiate round three-over-par, 75. Adam cardied a pair of birdies, including one on the 495-yard 11th hole.
Freshman Natalia Aseguinolaza shot four-over, 76 in her collegiate debut. Beginning the round with six-straight pars, Aseguinolaza birdied the 405-yard 18th hole and wrapped up the day with back-to-back pars.
Sophomore Krista Junkkari began the day on the seventh hole, shooting five-over par 77 on the first round. Despite an up-and-down outing, Junkkari wrapped up the day with three birdies, including two between her final four holes.
Junior Jennifer Zhou rounded out the Tar Heels with a 79, finishing with 12 pars on the day.
After the first day at Duran Golf Club, South Carolina is leading the Moon Golf Invite with a first round six-under-par 280.
Paired wth Oklahoma and Coastal Carolina, the Tar Heels continue with the second round Monday at 8 a.m. Fans can follow live results on GolfStat.com.
