Tar Heels Wrap Up Moon Golf Invite

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Highlighted by an eagle by Nicole Adam, the North Carolina women's golf team concluded the Moon Golf Invite in 14th place, shooting nine-over-par 297 at Duran Golf Club on Tuesday in Melbourne, Fla. The Tar Heels finished with rounds of 299-289-297 to shoot 21-over-par as a team.
Leading through the first two rounds, South Carolina won the Moon Golf Invite shooting three-under-par on the third day and 24-under-par throughout the tournament to best LSU in second place by six strokes.
Freshman Adam and sophomore Krista Junkkari led UNC each with a final round of one-over-par 73. Adam began the day with five-straight pars and shot an eagle on the 490-yard ninth hole – one of 15 eagles throughout the tournament. Junkkari birdied the 385-yard 12th hole and shot 13-straight pars, including the entire front nine.
North Carolina's top finisher, sophomore Kayla Smith shot three-over-par 75 on the final day to place 37th overall. Smith birdied the 379-yard sixth hole and finished the day with four-consecutive pars.
Freshman Natalia Aseguinolaza wrapped up her first collegiate tournament with a four-over-par 76 in the final round. Asequinolaza rebounded from a pair of bogeys to finish the day with six-straight pars.
Junior Jennifer Zhou finished the tournament shooting five-over-par 77 on Tuesday.
Up next, the Tar Heels head to Charleston, S.C. for the Palmetto Spring tournament Sunday and Monday.
