Scotty Named UTR ITA National Player Of The Week
February 24, 2021 | Women's Tennis
North Carolina's Elizabeth Scotty has been named the UTR ITA Division I Women's Tennis Player of the Week after continuing her success from national Indoors and adding a top 50 singles victory to her resume.
Scotty, a sophomore from Annapolis, Maryland, has seen her UTR ranking rise from 10.77 to 11.03 over the past nine days.Â
In the Tar Heels' first action since winning the title clinching point at the 2021 National Team Indoor Championship, Scotty continued her hot streak spanning three dual wins for the Tar Heels. Splitting time between No. 1 and 2 doubles, Scotty went undefeated - dropping only five games total across three matches. Paired with Sara Daavettila, her win over Charlotte's Maquet and Dean clinched the doubles point for the Heels.
During Carolina's top-15 matchup with Virginia on Sunday, Scotty and Makenna Jones teamed up to bring down Natasha Subhash and Sofia Munera. In singles against the Cavaliers, No. 79 Scotty moved up to the No. 3 position where she faced No. 47 Rosie Johanson . Scotty's straight-set victory over Johanson put the Heels within one point of clinching the match.
The UTR ITA Player of the Week award is entering year two of being awarded. The UTR ITA Player of the Week awards program honors male and female individuals from all five divisions (NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, and Junior College) with weekly awards during the spring dual-match season.
The No. 1 Carolina women's tennis team is home this weekend to host ACC foes Louisville on Friday at 3 p.m. and Notre Dame on Saturday at 11 a.m.
