Women's Golf Travels to Gamecock Intercollegiate
February 26, 2021 | Women's Golf
CHAPEL HILL – Traveling to South Carolina for the second time this spring, the North Carolina women's golf team heads to the Gamecock Intercollegiate Monday through Wednesday at the Columbia Country Club's 6,297-yard, par 72 Tall Pines course in Columbia, S.C.
Â
"We've had a lot of conversations about staying in their process and staying in the target," head coach Jan Mann said. "We've been working on routine. If they stay in their process and in their routine, they can do very well. We're a young team. Hopefully with two tournaments under our belts, they'll be more comfortable and feel freer on the course."
Â
The Tar Heels starting five includes junior Jennifer Zhou, freshmen Natalia Aseguinolaza and Nicole Adam and sophomore Kayla Smith and Krista Junkkari. Senior Ava Bergner will compete as an individual. Fans can follow live results on GolfStat.com.
Â
Carolina, along with Duke and Wake Forest, is one of three ACC teams teeing off in Columbia. Teams will begin off the first and 10th tees from 9 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday's final round is a shotgun start beginning at 9 a.m. UNC is paired with Mississippi State and Texas A&M to tee off from the 10th hole beginning at 10:39 a.m. Monday.
Â
"It was built in 1904 and is a typical tree-lined course," Mann said. "It looks somewhat tight but nothing that we haven't seen before. It's a traditional Carolinas course. Having similar features to our course at Finley, that could put our team at ease and provide a better comfort level.
Â
After three consecutive weeks of tournaments, the Tar Heels have nearly two weeks away from competition and return to action at the Briar Creek Invitational March 15-16 in Charleston, S.C.
