Men's Tennis Wins At Georgia Tech, 4-1

ATLANTA—The No. 1-ranked North Carolina men's tennis team continued its unbeaten start and won at Georgia Tech, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon.
The Tar Heels won their 10th consecutive match dating back to last season and ran their 2021 record to 8-0 overall and 2-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
With the Tar Heels playing their first outdoor match of the year after playing their first seven indoors, William Blumberg won the deciding singles match 6-0, 6-4 over Marcus McDaniel at No. 1.
Rinky Hijikata and Brian Cernoch also won their singles matches for UNC. Hijikata beat Pablo Schelcher in straight sets at No. 3, 6-2, 6-2. Meanwhile, Cernoch ran his 2021 singles record to 8-0 in dual matches with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Keshav Chopra at No. 4.
The Tar Heels started the afternoon by winning the doubles point, taking two of three doubles matches. After the Yellow Jackets' Andres Martin and Chen Dong beat Adam Neff and Mac Kiger at No. 3, 6-1, Carolina won at No. 2 and No. 1 to take the point. Hijikata and Benjamin Sigouin won first, 6-1, at No. 2 doubles over Brandon McKinney and Chopra. Blumberg and Cernoch clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win over 31st-ranked Schelcher and McDaniel.
Carolina will continue its 2021 season next weekend with road matches at Louisville and Notre Dame on Friday and Sunday, respectively. The Tar Heels will play their next home match on Friday March 12 against Boston College.
