
Carolina Up To 10th At NCAA Women's Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina moved up to 10th place after day three of the NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships from the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
The Tar Heels have compiled 114 points thus far as a team, and are only four points outside the top-10. Fellow ACC programs Virginia and NC State are currently 1-2 in the team standings with 344 and 241 points, respectively.
Junior Grace Countie, who finished fifth last night in the 50-yard freestyle, placed seventh on Friday in the 100-yard backstroke (51.55) to earn All-America honors for the second night in a row.
Junior Sophie Lindner garnered honorable mention All-America plaudits by placing 13th in the 100 back (51.95).
Freshman Aranza Vazquez finished runner-up to grab silver medal honors in the 3-meter event with a score of 384.75. She was second last night in the 1-meter event as well.
Additionally, junior Emily Grund placed 18th with a score of 304.80.
The evening wrapped up with the 200-yard medley relay. Carolina again earned All-America honors by placing eighth with a time of 1:36.25 thanks to the outstanding work of Countie, Lilly Higgs, Lindner and Heidi Lowe.
Saturday is the final day of action at the NCAA Championships with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. and finals set for 6 p.m. Grund and Vazquez will compete in the platform diving event, while Lindner is up in the 200 back and Ellie Vannote in the 200 butterfly. UNC will also take part in the 400 free relay.
