Men's Soccer Picks Up Tie At Syracuse, 0-0

SYRACUSE, N.Y.—Fifteenth-ranked North Carolina and Syracuse clawed their way to a scoreless tie on Saturday afternoon at SU Soccer Stadium.

The Tar Heels are now 5-3-3 this season, including 2-0-1 this Spring in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Orange is 1-6-4, 0-5-3.

UNC maintained its hold on first place in the ACC Coastal Division with seven points, leading Pitt and Virginia (six each).
Â
Carolina outshot Syracuse, 8-3, including a 3-0 edge in shots on goal.  Syracuse had three corner kicks to UNC's one.

Alec Smir went the distance in goal once again for the Tar Heels, holding the Orange scoreless for 110 minutes in his eighth shutout of the season and the 17th of his career. Russell Shealy played all 110 minutes in goal for Syracuse, making three saves.

Carolina will return to action next Saturday night (March 27) at Notre Dame at 7 p.m.
