Volleyball Travels to Pittsburgh For Top-25 Matches

CHAPEL HILL – Coming off a 2-0 weekend in Carmichael Arena, North Carolina travels to Pittsburgh for a pair of matches against top-25 opponents, No. 25 Florida State and host, No. 19 Pittsburgh.

Carolina (10-4, 9-3 ACC) opens the weekend against Florida State (11-4, 7-4 ACC) on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Pittsburgh. The Tar Heels wrap up the weekend against host Pittsburgh (11-4, 10-4 ACC) Â Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Fans can watch both matches on ACCNX and follow live stats at pittsburghpanthers.com.

Most recently, Carolina topped Wake Forest in four sets and prevailed for a five-set win over No. 18 Notre Dame to mark UNC's first win against the Fighting Irish since 2016. Improving to 6-1 at home, Carolina out-blocked its opponents 27.0 to 13.0 and dished out a season-best 10 aces on Friday vs. Wake Forest.

Although the Demon Deacons managed a six-point win in the first set, Carolina bounced back to win the next three sets for the 3-1 victory. The Tar Heels out-blocked Wake Forest, 14.0-3.0 and closed the match with a .424 hitting percentage in set four. Led by Ryan Shannon's four aces, Carolina totaled a season-best 10 aces Friday.

Coming down to a decisive fifth set, North Carolina defeated No. 18 Notre Dame, 3-2, on Senior Day in Carmichael Arena Sunday afternoon. The Tar Heels won the first two sets, before Notre Dame bounced back to take the third and fourth sets. Behind Carolina's 13 blocks and eight aces, the Tar Heels' five-point rally secured the fifth set, 15-9, and the match, 3-2.

Throughout the weekend, Skyy Howard led UNC's attack with 31 kills and 13 total blocks. Karenna Wurl collected 42 digs to average 4.67 digs per set. Annabelle Archer averaged 9.11 assists per set.

Three Tar Heels set single-match career-bests on Friday: Skyy Howard (16 kills), Niki Khoshatefeh (six blocks) and Ryan Shannon (four aces). Karenna Wurl tied her career best on Sunday (24 digs).
