Hokies Edge Men's Soccer, 1-0, On Senior Night

CHAPEL HILL—Kristo Strickler scored in the 52nd minute as Virginia Tech's men's soccer team beat 15th-ranked North Carolina, 1-0, on a chilly Friday evening at Dorrance Field.
The game marked the final regular season home appearances for UNC seniors Giovanni Montesdeoca and Mark Salas, who are set to graduate and move on to the professional ranks after the season.
The Tar Heels fell to 6-4-3 this season, including 6-2-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Hokies improved to 5-6-2, 4-5-2.
After a scoreless first half, Nathan Durst gathered the ball in the front right of the UNC net, spun away from the goal line and fed Strickler, who scored from point-blank range for the only goal of the game.
Carolina out-shot the Hokies, 13-3, including 9-2 in the second half. Tech's Matt Zambetti (1-4-1), made 10 saves to pick up the win.
Carolina will return to action next Friday night April 9 at Duke.
