CHAPEL HILL – Brady Manek, a four-year starter at forward at the University of Oklahoma, where he is the 14th-leading scorer in Sooner history, is transferring to play next season at the University of North Carolina.
Â
The 6-9 forward graduated from OU with a degree in business administration/management in December 2020. He graduated in just seven semesters and was a three-time member of the Academic All-Big 12 team, including this past season, when he was one of only two players in the Big 12 nominated with a 4.0 grade point average.
Â
"Brady is the perfect player for what we wanted and what we needed," says UNC head coach Hubert Davis. "We needed a player that had size, but from an offensive standpoint, had the versatility to score around the basket with either hand and be just as effective on the perimeter. And that's what Brady has done for four seasons at Oklahoma. He's not just a shooter, even though he's a great three-point shooter. He can handle the ball, can put it on the floor and make plays and is an excellent passer. Plus, he's a really good defender and rebounder."
Â
Manek started 111 of 122 games for the recently-retired Lon Krueger's club, scoring 1,459 points with 681 rebounds, 101 blocks and 61 steals. Manek made 235 three-pointers, fifth-most in OU history. He is the tallest player in Big 12 history to make 200 threes in a career and became the first player in Big 12 history with 200 threes and 100 blocks. He is the only Sooner to compile 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 200 three-pointers and 100 blocks.
Â
A resident of Harrah, Okla., Manek scored in double figures 75 times, grabbed 10 or more rebounds 11 times, had eight double-doubles and made five or more three-pointers nine times. His career highs include 31 points and eight three-pointers against UT San Antonio and 15 rebounds against Iowa State.
