April 24, 2021 | Baseball
HOUSTON - Former Tar Heel standout (2011-13) Kent Emanuel is set to make his Major League Baseball debut after the Houston Astros announced he had been called up from the team's alternate training site.
The Astros drafted Emanuel out of the University of North Carolina in the third round of the 2013 draft. He pitched parts of three seasons in Class AAA, but hadn't been called up until Friday when he was recalled from the Astros' alternate training site and reliever Nivaldo Rodriguez was sent down.
In spring training of this year, Emanuel gave up just one earned run in 8.1 innings, striking out eight and walking one.
Emanuel is tied for the eighth-most wins in a single season with 11 and has posted the most career wins (28) by a junior in UNC history, feats he accomplished in 2013.
