Softball Drops Midweek Match to Charlotte

CHAPEL HILL – Although the Tar Heels threatened with runners in scoring position in the seventh, North Carolina fell to Charlotte 11-4 in Chapel Hill on Tuesday evening.

Charlotte jumped to an early six-run lead by the second inning. The Tar Heels managed to bring it within two thanks to a two-run home run by Brittany Pickett and heads up base-running by Skyler Brooks and Campbell Hutcherson that caused the 49ers' infield to scramble. However, Charlotte's momentum continued with five unanswered runs to earn the midweek win.

Carolina scattered six hits throughout the game while Pickett led the Tar Heels with two RBI for her second multi-RBI game of the season. Charlotte's Bailey Vannoy and Madelyn Wright both had three-hit games.

Katie Grace Olinger struck out one in 3.1 innings to take the loss and fall to 0-3 on the season. Charlotte's Wright earned the win in 4.0 innings while Lindsey Walljasper picked up the save.

North Carolina (10-13, 6-7 ACC) hosts Virginia at home for a four-game series, starting Friday with a 4 p.m. doubleheader at Anderson Stadium. Charlotte improves to 18-8 on the season.
