Softball Ends Season at ACC Championships

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Rallying to load the bases in the top of the seventh of round one of the ACC Championships, the North Carolina Tar Heels did not complete the comeback against the NC State Wolfpack on Wednesday evening at Ulmer Stadium in Louisville, Ky.
The Tar Heels opened the game with Kristina Burkhardt scoring, after being hit by pitch and errors sent her around the bases in the first inning. Carolina held the 1-0 lead until Skyler Brooks scored one run in the top of the third off a Destiny Middleton single. The third inning saw a Wolfpack comeback to take the score 2-1, before the NC State scored four runs off two walk RBIs and one single to take the lead to 4-2.
Brittany Pickett started in the circle for the Tar Heels, throwing three and a third innings before handing the reins to Katie Grace Olinger. Alyssa Stanley also came into the circle in the fourth inning, finishing the game for Carolina. Winning pitcher for the Wolfpack: Estelle Czech (4-5), losing pitcher for the Heels: Brittany Pickett (11-8).
The Tar Heels leave the ACC Championship tournament, ending the season, with an overall record of 14-26, with 10-20 in ACC play.
