Daavettila, Graham Advance At NCAA Singles Championship

ORLANDO - Fifth-year seniors Sara Daavettila and Alexa Graham each won a first round match on Sunday at the NCAA Singles Championship from the USTA National Campus.
Top seeded Daavettila did it the hard way in three sets over No. 48 Solymar Colling, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3, of San Diego.
41st ranked Graham cruised over No. 28 Akvile Parazinskaite of Kentucky, 6-1, 6-0.
On the flip side, three Tar Heels were upended in first-round matches.
No. 32 Makenna Jones was upended, 6-2, 6-2, by No. 20 Meg Kowalski of Georgia. Jones finishes her singles career with a scintillating record of 115-35, good for the eighth most wins in program history.
No. 27 Cameron Morra fell 6-2, 6-3, to No. 18 Irina Cantos Siemers of Ohio State. Morra wraps up her junior campaign with a 15-9 singles mark and is 67-20 in her career.
No. 36 Fiona Crawley suffered her first collegiate singles loss at the hands of No. 46 Ayana Akli of Maryland, 7-5, 7-5. Crawley completes her remarkable rookie season with a 30-1 record in singles competition.
