Junior QB named AAU Sullivan Award Finalist
Sam Howell continues to haul in numerous accolades this week for his outstanding play on the football field. Already named ACC Quarterback of the Week, Howell earned a spot on the Davey O'Brien Award's Great 8 list for the second week in a row and was named a Manning Award "Star of the Week" after his historic performance in last Saturday night's 59-39 win over Virginia.
The Indian Trail, N.C, signal caller accumulated 419 total yards of offense with 307 passing yards and a career-high 112 rushing yards. Howell moved past Russell Wilson and into sixth place in ACC history with 77 career touchdown passes and is now just two shy of moving into the top five.
The junior completed 14 of 21 pass attempts, threw for five touchdowns, and became just the fourth FBS quarterback ever to record back-to-back games with 300 passing yards and 100 rushing yards and joined 2016 Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson of Louisville as the only other Power 5 quarterback to do so.
In addition, Howell has been named a finalist for the 91st AAU Sullivan Award. A week-long public voting period, Monday, September 20 – Monday, September 27, will determine who are the top finalists.
