September 21, 2021 | Football
PHILADELPHIA - Sam Howell has been recognized as the Maxwell Award Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the Maxwell Football Club.Â
Howell, one of the premier passers in the country, has run for more than 100 yards in each of the last two weekends. In doing so, he joined Lamar Jackson as the only Power Five players to ring up 300 passing yards and 100 rushing yards in consecutive weeks.Â
In Saturday's pivotal ACC showdown with Virginia, Howell accounted for 419 total yards and tossed five touchdowns.Â
Since Monday, Howell has been named ACC Quarterback of the Week, earned a spot on the Davey O'Brien Award's Great 8 list and was named a Manning Award "Star of the Week."
Additionally, Howell has been named a finalist for the 91st AAU Sullivan Award. A week-long public voting period, Monday, September 20 – Monday, September 27, will determine who are the top finalists.
