Meet the Heels: #13 Isabela Emerling
January 27, 2022 | Softball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The 2022 season is 15 days away, so it's time to get to know this year's newcomers! Up next in our series is freshman Isabela Emerling.Â
Â
Emerling is a catcher and infielder from Martinez, Calif. She was a four-year letter winner at Alhambra High School, playing catcher and first and third baseman for coach Adam McLane and serving as a team captain. Coming out of high school, she was ranked as a top-10 catcher by FloSoftball and had been nationally ranked in the 2021 recruiting class since eighth grade.Â
Â
Why Carolina? I chose to attend UNC because I knew I would be challenged in the classroom and on the field. I also wanted to be a part of an outstanding traditional culture.
Major? I'm currently undecided.
Go-to pump-up song? Put Me on Something by P-Lo
Favorite pre-game snack? Rice Krispies Treats
Best walkup song?  Why You Always Hatin? by Kamaiyah and YG
What are you looking forward to most this season? I'm excited to compete against some of the best softball players in the country.
Favorite part of being a Tar Heel? It would have to be being a part of something greater than myself - seeing everyone so bought into our program and UNC is something truly humbling.
Favorite thing to do outside of softball? Fishing or shopping
Why and when did you start playing softball? I started playing softball when I was around three years old because of my dad. He was a baseball player and got me into the game.Â
Who are your role models? My parents, Morayma and Jacob Emerling
