Volleyball Downs Boston College In Straight Sets

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Carolina volleyball team defeated Boston College in straight sets (25-15, 25-21, 25-18) on Friday night in Carmichael Arena in the Tar Heels' sixth sweep of the season.
 
Mabrey Shaffmaster led the offense with a match-best 12 kills, her eighth-straight match with double-digit kills. Shaffmaster was the only player in the match with double-digit kills.
 
The Tar Heels outhit the Eagles .340 to .152 in the victory, Carolina's second-best attacking performance of the season and just the second time the team has hit above .300.
 
Led by a match-best six blocks from Kaya Merkler, Carolina out-blocked Boston College 9 to 4, while Sadie Swift and Liv Mogridge each had three blocks.
 
Anita Babic ran the offense with 36 assists and two aces, while Carson Overbeck set a new career-best with three aces from the service line.
 
Charley Niego hit a season-best .615, tallying eight kills in 13 attempts with no errors to go with seven digs.
Parker Austin and Maddy May defended Carolina's back-row, each tallying 12 digs.
 
With the win, the Tar Heels improve to 26-1 in the all-time series over the Eagles.
