Zapp & Kittay Advance To ITA Regional Doubles Quarterfinal

CARY, N.C.—The University of North Carolina's Logan Zapp and Benjamin Kittay posted a big win and advanced to the doubles quarterfinals of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Carolina Region Championship on Sunday at Cary Tennis Park.
Zapp and Kittay beat Wake Forest's Matthew Thomson and Luciano Tacchi in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2, in the round of 16.Â
Meanwhile, Tar Heels Peter Murphy and Karl Poling dropped 4-6, 6-1, 0-1 (7) decision to Wake's Filippo Moroni and Juan Lopez De Azcona to end their run in the round of 16.
Anuj Watane beat Martin Rocens of NC State, 7-6, 7-6, in the singles round of 16 on Sunday before losing to Andrew Zhang of Duke, 6-3, 2-6, 6-7 (5) in the quarters. Kittay, Poling, Murphy and Zapp each lost their initial matches on Sunday in the round of 16 singles draw.
Tournament action will resume on Monday at 9 a.m. in Cary.
