Times Set For NCAA Women's Soccer Second And Third Round

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina will host the second and third rounds of the 2022 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Tournament from Thursday, Nov. 17 – Saturday, Nov. 19.
The No.2 seed North Carolina (16-4-1) advanced to the second round with a 5-0 win over Old Dominion in the first round at Dorrance Field on Saturday to earn the right to host the next two rounds.
Carolina's second round match will be against seventh-seeded Georgia (13-5-3) on Thursday at 5 p.m. following the conclusion of the match between No. 3 seed Stanford (17-2-2) and No. 6 seed BYU (11-2-6) scheduled for 2 p.m.
The winners of the two games will then face off Saturday, Nov. 19, at 11:30 a.m., for a trip to the quarterfinals.
UNC redshirt freshman Ally Sentnor recorded the first brace of her career, scoring in the sixth and 60th minute, to lead the Tar Heels to their first round victory. Senior Tori Hansen collected a pair of assists goals by Maddie Dahlien and Avery Patterson.
The Tar Heels are 22-0 all-time in second round games played in Chapel Hill, including a 4-0 win over Georgia in 2009. The Bulldogs posted a 2-0 win over Samford in the first round on Friday in Athens, earning their first tournament win since 2011. UGA netted each of its goals in the first half against Samford and is 3-0-2 over its last five matches.
Stanford comes to Chapel Hill following a dominant 6-0 win over San Jose State in its first round match Friday night. Freshman Jasmine Aikey scored four goals, including three in a span of three minutes during the second half. Champion of the PAC-12, Stanford is 10-0-1 in its last 11 matches.
BYU, who played UNC in an exhibition match earlier this season on Dorrance Field, returns to Chapel Hill on the heels of a 3-0 win over Utah Valley State Friday night. The West Coast Conference champion Cougars enter Thursday's match against Stanford on a three-game winning streak outshot and are unbeaten in their last 12 matches (8-0-4).
Quarterfinal matches will be played Nov. 25-26 on campus sites, and the 41st annual NCAA Women's College Cup will be played Dec. 32-5 at Wake Med Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.
