Men's Lacrosse Chooses Captains For 2023

CHAPEL HILL - The North Carolina men's lacrosse team has named five captains for the upcoming season. Connor Maher, Alex Breschi, Lance Tillman, Quintin O'Connell and Evan Egan have been voted by their teammates as team captains for 2022-23.

This is Maher's second season in a row serving as a captain, while this will be the first season Breschi, Tillman, Egan and O'Connell have each been selected.
Maher, a midfielder from Timonium, Md., was second on the team with 43 ground balls and caused 10 turnovers in 2022, while also recording two goals and two assists. He saw action in all 14 games and was named a Second Team All-America by Inside Lacrosse Media, USILA and USA Lacrosse Magazine. Maher was also named to the All-ACC team, the ACC All-Academic team and was a selected as a Top-10 UNC Scholar-Athlete.
Breschi, a defensive midfielder from Glen Arm, Md., played in 14 games for the Tar Heels in 2022, collecting 18 ground balls and forcing eight turnovers, tied for second-most on the team.
Tillman, an attackman from Highlands Ranch, Colo., had 21 goals, nine assists, 30 points and nine groundballs in 14 games for the Tar Heels last season.
Egan, a defenseman from San Diego, Calif., saw action in five games and started three in 2022, collecting a career-best eight groundballs and forcing two turnovers.
O'Connell, a defensive midfielder from New Canaan, Conn., appeared in five games in 2022, tallying four groundballs and two assists.
Breschi, O'Connell, Maher and Egan were also named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll for their outstanding achievements in the classroom.
"I'm really happy for these young men who were voted leaders by their peers,"said head coach Joe Breschi. "They all bring a different element of competitiveness and leadership style to the team, and I look forward to watching them grow and develop this team throughout the season."Â
