November 9, 2022 | Softball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Redshirt junior outfielder Kianna Jones will represent Team Canada this week at the 2022 WBSC Americas Women's Pan American Championship.
Jones, who was named to the Canadian Women's National Softball Team roster in September, will be competing with the team from Nov. 12-19 in Guatemala City, Guatemala. The Surrey, B.C., native previously competed for Team Canada this summer at the World Games in Birmingham, Ala.
"I'm super excited to have this opportunity," Jones said. "It's a privilege to not only represent my country, but to be part of a program that is building and being led by a great coaching staff with experienced players that I can learn and grow with. I'm excited to represent Carolina softball and the red and white internationally."
The Pan American Championship will serve as the WBSC Americas Continental Qualifier for the new World Cup. The top five teams will qualify for the 2023 World Cup – Group Stage, which will consist of three six-team tournaments hosted in Italy, Ireland, and Spain with the top two teams from each of those events and two wild card teams advancing to the 2024 World Cup Finals.
