Wrestling Heads To New Orleans For Collegiate Duals

NEW ORLEANS, LA. - The No. 17-ranked North Carolina wrestling program heads south to New Orleans for the final competition of 2022, competing in the Collegiate Wrestling Duals, hosted by Journeymen Wrestling.

The two-day 12-team event is broken down into two divisions per pool. The Tar Heels fall into blue pool, with Central Michigan and No. 1 Penn State in their division. Based on the results of the pair of dual matches Monday evening, Carolina will face the respective seed from the opposite pool on Tuesday. Fans can tune in to the entire event, with a subscription and pay-per-view fee on Rofkin.

The Tar Heels fell to Appalachian State Thursday evening in Carmichael Arena.
Carolina collected its first win of the evening with Lachlan McNeil's 14-5 major decision at 141. Just two matches later, Austin O'Connor made his season debut for UNC, collecting a 9-4 decision.
The Tar Heels would win the final three matches of the night, at 184, 197, and 285-pounds. Gavin Kane jumped out to an early lead in the 184-pound showdown, using four first-round takedowns en route to his 8-6 decision triumph. Following at 197, Max Shaw also raced out to an early lead in the first period, on his way to a 6-2 decision win. Closing out the night against Appalachian State, Tar Heel heavyweight Brandon Whitman battled to seal the 3-2 decision.
