Bacot Named ACC Player Of The Week
December 19, 2022 | Men's Basketball
University of North Carolina forward/center Armando Bacot is the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week for December 12-18 based on his play in Carolina's wins over Ohio State and The Citadel.
The senior from Richmond, Va., averaged 21 points, 13 rebounds, 2.5 assists and a blocked shot in leading the Tar Heels (8-4) to a 100-67 home win over The Citadel on December 13 and an 89-84 comeback win over the Buckeyes in New York's Madison Square Garden on Saturday.
Bacot grabbed a combined 13 offensive rebounds and was 16 for 28 from the floor in the two games. He had game highs in points (28) and rebounds (15) and added three assists against Ohio State, when he became the first Tar Heel ever with at least 25 points and 15 rebounds in a game in the current Madison Square Garden (since 1968).
It was his 16th career game with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds and his 56th career double-double. Carolina trailed the Buckeyes by 14 in the first half and by 10 points with less than seven minutes to play.
Bacot has double-doubles in each of his last five games.
This is Bacot's fourth career ACC Player-of-the-Week award, which ties him for the ninth most all-time by a Tar Heel with Brice Johnson, Joseph Forte and Sam Perkins. He needs just 41 rebounds to pass Perkins for the second most all-time in UNC history.
