Softball Travels To Elon For Midweek Matchup

CHAPEL HILL – After opening the 2022 season 4-0 on the road at the Carolina Classic in Columbia, S.C., the Tar Heels head to Elon for a midweek in-state matchup on Wednesday afternoon. The game gets underway at Hunt Softball Park at 4:30 p.m. and will be broadcasted live on FloSoftball.
About Elon (3-0)
The Phoenix hosted the Elon Softball Classic on Feb. 11-12, going 3-0 to open the season. Elon earned back-to-back victories over IUPUI before finishing with a win over Saint Francis.
Rebecca Murray (.571) and Keagan Goldwait (.400) are leading the Phoenix at the plate, while Megan Grant has drawn a team-best six walks.
In the circle, Isley Duggins, McKenzie Weber and Taylor Cherry each earned victories in the circle, with Isley and Weber currently holding 0 ERAs.
Recently for North Carolina (4-0)
For the first time since 2012, the Carolina softball team opened the season 4-0. The Tar Heels earned wins over George Washington, Lipscomb, Virginia and South Carolina on opening weekend.
Senior Taylor Greene finished the weekend batting a team-best .455, going 5-of-11 from the plate, while tallying six RBIs, five hits, a triple and plating two runs.
In their first weekend as Tar Heels, Sara Jubas had five hits, three runs and three RBIs, while Kianna Jones recorded three hits, including the first Carolina home run of the season.
In the circle, Hannah George earned two victories, Talia Hannappel had a win and a save and Lilli Backes earned a win against the Gamecocks.
The Tar Heels finished the weekend batting .359 as a team.
Carolina currently ranks No. 2 in the nation in triples, averaging 1.25 per game.

Carolina has a short turnaround, heading back on the road to the Spring Games in Leesburg, Fla. from Feb. 18-20. Over the course of the three-day tournament, the Tar Heels will face FAU, Missouri, Monmouth, Stetson and Ohio State.
