Meet The Diamond Heels: Brandon Schaeffer

The final installment of our Meet The Diamond Heels series features left-handed pitcher Brandon Schaeffer. A native of Pennsylvania, he spent the past three seasons at WVU Potomac State College.

Schaeffer made 23 appearances and 18 starts during portions of three seasons at Potomac State College. He posted a career record of 14-3 with two saves and a 1.68 ERA. A consistent strike thrower, he averaged 13.50 strikeouts per nine innings, fanning 169 batters in 112.2 innings pitched.

As a sophomore, Schaeffer posted an NJCAA DI leading ERA of 0.94 in 2021, allowing only five earned runs in 47.2 innings pitched. In addition, he averaged nearly 15 strikeouts per nine (14.92) during the 2021 season, third-most in the nation and finished the year with a 7-1 record. He was named All-Region XX First Team and received NJCAA DI All-America honorable mention accolades.

During his freshman season of 2019, Schaeffer struck out 85 batters in 54.1 innings pitched (14.08 K/9) to rank 10th in the country in strikeouts per nine innings. He recorded a 1.82 ERA during the campaign, which was 14th lowest in NJCAA DI.

Schaeffer attended Schuylkill Haven Area High School and was a four-year letterman for coach Scott Buffington. He pitched and played first base and pitcher, earning Player-of-the-Year honors as a senior and Pitcher-of-the-Year accolades as a junior. He was selected all-state twice.
Brandon is the son of Laura and Jeff Schaeffer and has two younger siblings: Ryan and Anna. His mother was a track and field letterman at Kent State.
