Softball Falls To Ohio State, 5-2

LEESBURG, Fla. – The Carolina softball team fell to Ohio State 5-2 on Sunday morning in their last game of The Spring Games Tournament.
Freshman Carlie Myrtle led the team with two RBIs, plating the run with her second career hit. Lilli Backes (1-2) took the loss in the circle, pitching 5.2 innings, allowing 10 hits, five earned runs and striking out three Buckeye batters.
Ohio State got on the board first in the bottom of the second, four consecutive singles to take a 2-0 lead.
Sara Jubas opened the top of the fourth inning with a single through the left side, advancing to second on a sac bunt from Taylor Greene. Skyler Brooks then singled to the shortstop and advanced to second, putting runners on second and third base. Myrtle plated them with a single to make it two all.
Ohio State took back the lead in the bottom of the fourth with back-to-back-to-back singles, plating a run to go ahead 3-2.
The Buckeyes added to its lead in the fifth, tripling to open the inning. The runner was tagged home after a groundout, by Greene was called for obstruction at the plate and the run scored to make it 4-2.
The final run of the day came in the bottom of the sixth, after a leadoff double was followed by an RBI single.
The Tar Heels had an opportunity in the seventh to cut the lead, getting two on base, but were stranded to end the game.
Carolina drops to 6-4 on the season.
