Columbia Edges Men's Tennis, 4-3

CHAPEL HILL—Columbia's Roko Horvat won the clinching match at No. 6 singles as No. 23 Columbia edged No. 21 North Carolina, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
Horvat edged Peter Murphy by a 7-5, 7-6 score, winning the second-set tiebreaker, 8-6.
The Lions won the doubles points and led, 2-0, early, before the Tar Heels clawed back to tie it at 2-all behind straight-set wins by Benjamin Sigouin at No. 2 singles and Logan Zapp at No. 3.
After Columbia retook the lead at 3-2 with a win at No. 5 singles, Brian Cernoch posted one of his best singles wins of the season, coming from behind to beat No. 7-ranked Alex Kotzen in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, tying the team score at 3-all.
Carolina played without senior Mac Kiger, who missed the match due to injury.
The Tar Heels will return to action next weekend when they host Virginia Tech and Virginia on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
