Meet The Diamond Heels: Vance Honeycutt

The 16-part Meet The Diamond Heels series introduces Salisbury native Vance Honeycutt in the latest edition. Honeycutt was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 20th round of the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft.

"It was exciting to be drafted as a high school player and also humbling," said Honeycutt. "My goal is to get bigger, faster and stronger over the next three years and hopefully, I can put myself in position to be drafted again."

Recently ranked as the No. 22 recruiting class in the country by DI Baseball, Carolina's crop of newcomers includes 12 freshmen and four transfers. Honeycutt came to UNC ranked as the one of the top 500 players nationally on top of being the No. 17 overall player and No. 6 shortstop in North Carolina.

Honeycutt was multi-sport athlete at Salisbury High School, earning Player-of-the-Year honors both as a shortstop on the baseball diamond and a quarterback on the football field. As a senior he led SHS to the 2021 NCHSAA baseball 2A state championship.

A second-generation Diamond Heel, Vance's father, Bob, played at was a two-year letterman at UNC and part of the program's 1989 College World Series team. His mother, Leah, was a member of the Tar Heels' track and field squad. Has two older sisters, Kayla and Julia, who played soccer at UNC Charlotte.
