March 1, 2022 | Men's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL - After a nine-goal performance in the Tar Heels' two games this past week, graduate attackman Chris Gray has been honored as the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week. The honor, his second of the season, was announced by the league on Tuesday.
Gray, from Wading River, N.Y., led the way for No. 8 UNC in wins overs Brown and No. 13 Johns Hopkins. He scored two goals with three assists and added four ground balls as the Tar Heels earned the 14-11 win over Brown. Gray led the team with seven goals and two assists in the win over No. 13 Johns Hopkins. His seven goals were the second-most in a game for his career. It is the fourth time he has scored six or more goals in a game at UNC. His single game high was against Johns Hopkins in 2020 when he scored eight.
It's Gray's seventh ACC weekly honor as a Tar Heel. He earned Offensive Player of the Week honors four times during the 2021 season.
Virginia's Petey LaSalla was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
On Saturday, the eighth-ranked Tar Heels are back in action, hosting No. 20 Denver at noon. The game will be broadcasted live on ACC Network Extra.
