Culton Named 2022 EAGL Scholar Athlete

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Junior Elizabeth Culton was named the 2022 EAGL Scholar of the Year, the conference announced on Saturday.Â

The nursing major has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.84, earning a perfect 4.0 in spring 2021 and a 3.69 in the fall. Culton is a three-time EAGL All-Academic Team qualifier and was named a WCGA Scholastic All-American in 2020 and 2021. She was recently accepted to UNC's nursing school, the No. 1 public school of nursing master's program in the nation.

Culton was also a big part of Carolina gymnastics' success on the mats during the 2022 regular season. She competed on bars, floor and beam in all ten meets, earning four titles on bars, one on floor and one on beam.

She recorded a 9.975 at LIU on March 6, the second-highest score in school history which also matched the highest score on the apparatus of any gymnast in the conference.

Culton is one of just three gymnasts in the EAGL to post a 9.95 or better on bars in the regular season. The specialist finished the regular season ranked No. 2 on bars and No. 2 beam in the conference, posting nine scores of 9.90.
