Sophomore Deja Kelly has added another honor to her resume. The guard from San Antonio, Texas has earned a spot on the 2022 WBCA Division I Coaches' All-America honorable mention team, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced on Thursday.
Â
The WBCA named a 10-member All-America team. Kelly was one of 42 student-athletes, one of eight from the Atlantic Coast Conference, to earn honorable mention.
Â
Kelly, who earned first-team All-ACC honors this season, led the Tar Heels with 16.5 points per game, which ranks fourth in the conference. Her .858 free throw percentage is the best in the league and she ranks 14th in field goal percentage (.366).
Â
The Tar Heels finished the season 25-7, reaching the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2015. Kelly, part of a consistent starting five that took the court for all 32 games, engineered significant improvement from her freshman to sophomore years, with her scoring up from 11 ppg to 16.5 ppg and her shooting percentage up from .329 to .366. She scored in double figures in all but four games in 2021-22 and averaged 22 points in UNC's three NCAA Tournament games.
