Heels, Jackets Set To Clash At The Bosh

CHAPEL HILL – North Carolina welcomes Georgia Tech to Boshamer Stadium for a three-game ACC Coastal Division series beginning Friday night at Boshamer Stadium. The Diamond Heels and Yellow Jackets are tied for fifth place in the division with identical conference records of 7-8 and are both coming off midweek losses.
Carolina is hosting Georgia Tech for the first time since 2018. The Yellow Jackets have won four of the last six games in the series, all in Atlanta. However, the last time they did visit Boshamer Stadium, the Diamond Heels swept the three-game series.
The last time the visiting team won the weekend series was 2017 when the Diamond Heels took two of three in Atlanta. UNC is 29-29 all-time at Boshamer Stadium against Georgia Tech.
PITCHING MATCHUP
LAST TIME OUT
UNC lost its first non-conference home game of the season Tuesday night to North Carolina A&T, 7-6. The Aggies scored six runs in the fourth inning to end the Diamond Heel's 14-game non-conference home winning streak. Angel Zarate collected three this in the game, while Mac Horvath, Alberto Osuna, and Danny Serretti each hit a home run. Caden O'Brien came out of the bullpen to toss three innings and strikeout a season-high six batters.

The Diamond Heels have hit multiple home runs in four of the last six games and have homered in six consecutive games overall with 42 total round trip hits this season. Osuna has hit four home runs in the last, Serretti in two of the last three games and Horvath in each of the past two games. Osuna leads the team with 11 home runs followed by Vance Honeycutt and Johnny Castagnozzi with eight homers each. Horvath has hit six homers this season and Serretti has blasted five.
ZARATE AMONG THE ACC LEADERS
Junior outfielder Angel Zarate ranks among the top 10 in the ACC in three categories: hits (3rd/53), doubles (3rd/13) and batting average (6th/.384). He is hitting .400 in ACC play and his 28 hits in league play are the second-most in the conference.
HONEYCUTT AMONG TOP ROOKIE SPEEDSTERS
Freshman Vance Honeycutt enters the sixth weekend of conference play as the ACC leader in stolen bases with 22, which ties for most among NCAA Division I freshman along with Jacob Humphrey of UMass-Lowell and ninth overall. Honeycutt's 22 stolen bases are the most by a Tar Heel freshman since 2000 when Adam Greenberg stole 28. He is currently tied for fourth place on the school's freshmen stolen base list.
