CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Despite a strong performance in the circle from Hannah George, the Carolina softball team (21-21, 5-11 ACC) was shutout by No. 4 FSU (38-4, 12-4 ACC), 2-0, in the series opener on Friday night.
The conference matchup drew nearly 1,000 fans to Anderson Stadium, the highest attendance of the season.
George (10-5) threw her sixth complete game, allowing just two earned runs, tallying three strikeouts and limiting the Seminoles to six hits as a team.
Offensively, the Tar Heels recorded just five hits, led by Bri Stubbs who went 2-of-3 at the plate.
It was a defensive duel through five innings, before the Seminoles took the lead with a two-out two-run home run in the top of the sixth.
FSU had only been limited to two runs in a game two other times in 2022.
Carolina will look to even the series on Saturday at 2 p.m. and will celebrate its five graduating seniors in a pre-game ceremony.
