DB Lejond Cavazos To Transfer To Carolina
April 25, 2022 | Football
CHAPEL HILL – Defensive back Lejond Cavazos is transferring to North Carolina. Cavazos spent the first two years of his collegiate career at Ohio State and has three years of eligibility remaining.
Â
"I want to say how excited I am to be a Tar Heel," Cavazos said. "Everything about being at North Carolina fit what I was looking for. It's a prestigious University, offering a great education, and the football program is on the rise. I've been able to build a strong bond with the coaching staff and you can see why people want to play for them. They're excellent coaches, but even more important, they're great men. I've also gotten to know some of the guys on the team, and I think I'll be a good fit. I can't wait to start this next chapter, get to Chapel Hill, and get to work with my new teammates."
Â
A 6-0, 192-pounder, Cavazos redshirted during his true freshman season in 2020 after seeing action in the Big Ten Championship game. In 2021, he appeared in 11 games, tallying eight tackles and two PBU as a redshirt freshman.
Â
A native of San Antonio, Texas, Cavazos was a four-star recruit and an Under Armour All-American coming out of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., where he became close friends with current UNC basketball player Armando Bacot. He clocked the fastest time at The Opening Regional event during his recruitment, posting a 4.4 and producing the overall high score. Cavazos' father C.J. is also involved in the game and serves as a scout for the XFL.
