DL Jacolbe Cowan To Transfer To Carolina
April 26, 2022 | Football
CHAPEL HILL – Defensive lineman Jacolbe Cowan is transferring to North Carolina. Cowan spent his first two years of college at Ohio State and has three years of eligibility remaining.
Â
"This is truly a full circle moment," Cowan said. "Not only was I born into and raised by a Tar Heel family, I also took my very first recruiting visit to UNC as an eighth grader. Since then, the football program has grown a great deal, is in good hands, and is definitely headed in the right direction. I have a long-standing relationship with the staff and players that has never wavered. And, who doesn't love Coach Mack Brown? This new journey will be special and I can't wait to get to work. Not only is it a Great Day To Be A Tar Heel, but it's great to be home!"
Â
A 6-4, 275-pounder, Cowan redshirted due to a season-ending injury during his true freshman season in 2020. In 2021, he appeared in five games, tallying three tackles as a redshirt freshman. Cowan was an OSU Scholar-Athlete and an Academic All-Big Ten honoree during his time in Columbus.
Â
A native of Charlotte, N.C., who played at Providence Day School, Cowan was ranked as a four-star prospect and participated in the Under Armour All-America game. He posted 57 tackles, 12 sacks, 17 TFL and 37 QB pressures as a senior in 2019 after recording 72 tackles, 10 sacks, 14 TFL and 20 pressures as a junior in '18. Cowan claimed All-America, all-state and all-conference honors during his prep career and helped Providence Day win the 2019 NCISAA State Championship.
